Canadian Charles Foran is the author of three novels, Kitchen Music, Butterfly Lovers and most recently House on Fire, and three non-fiction works, The Story of My Life (so far), The Last House of Ulster: A Family in Belfast, and Sketches in Winter: A Beijing Postscript.
He has received many awards for his work, including the QSPELL Award for The Last House of Ulster, which was also nominated for a Governor General's Award. His most recent novel, Butterfly Lovers, won the 1997 QSPELL Award. He is a contributing editor to Saturday Night magazine. Charles Foran spent 2 years in Beijing at the end of 1980s and has recently moved to Hong Kong where he now lives with his family.
