Verner Bickley

Verner Bickley, MBE is a much-travelled English writer, speaker, broadcaster (BBC World Service; NHK, Tokyo; Radio Singapore) and actor, who has lived in Asia for most of his life. A former teacher at Raffles Institution and the Teachers' Training College (now absorbed into the University of Singapore); Lecturer, State Teachers' Training College, Rangoon; Language Advisor at the University of Indonesia; British Council English Language Officer, Japan; Assistant Director of Education and Director, Institute of Language in Education, Hong Kong; he has been Director of the Culture Learning Institute of the East-West Centre, Hawaii, and Head of Language Training, Saudi Arabian Airlines. He is particularly interested in cross-cultural communication and cultural manifestations.

His most recent book, Searching for Frederick, published in Hong Kong by Asia 2000, is a book of travel and autobiography. It also contains much useful information and advice for aspiring writers of biography.

Verner's three-book anthology, Poems to Enjoy, published by Hong Kong Educational Publishing Co., comes with performance advice and a complete set of tapes. Book One is suitable for young readers, and Books Two and Three for adults. His English for the Office (The Commercial Press (Hong Kong)) also comes with a tape. He is language adviser for the OUP Primary English Language courses, Target!, On Target!, and New on Target!.

Verner is Chairman of the Executive Committee of the English Speaking Union in Hong Kong.
